Wirkstoffcharakterisierung und Differenzierung
BELACT zeigt in enzymatischen Testsystemen eine signifikant höhere spezifische Aktivität – bis zu 15- bis 300-fach im Vergleich zu bekannten oder potenziell vergleichbaren Wirkstoffen.
Das Enzym wurde vollständig ohne tierische Ausgangsstoffe entwickelt, was zu einem verbesserten Sicherheitsprofil und regulatorischen Vorteilen führt. Das zugrunde liegende Herstellungsverfahren ist patentrechtlich geschützt und in allen wesentlichen Schritten validiert.
TARGETING AN UNMET NEED: FAMILIAL HYPERCHOLESTEROLAEMIA
Die BELACT-Therapie richtet sich an Patienten mit familiärer Hypercholesterinämie – einer genetisch bedingten Erkrankung, die von einem (heterozygot) oder beiden Elternteilen (homozygot) vererbt wird. Besonders bei der homozygoten Form kann bereits im Kindesalter eine aggressive Atherosklerose und Arteriosklerose einsetzen, oft unbemerkt im Frühstadium.
BELACT is developed for a genetically driven condition that can cause rapid vascular deterioration from childhood, especially in homozygous cases. The disease fosters systemic lipid accumulation, inflammation, and plaque formation—leading to high cardiovascular risk and early mortality.
There are currently no therapies capable of reversing these advanced structural changes. BELACT addresses this critical gap with a precision-targeted, biotechnological approach.
